Barzan University College (BUC), in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, proudly welcomed its inaugural student cohorts across Foundation, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate programs in a milestone series of welcome events held at the BUC campus.
The events drew a full house of students, parents, faculty, and staff, creating a vibrant and emotional start to BUC’s journey. Families expressed their trust in BUC to deliver world-class education, while students radiated excitement as they introduced themselves and shared their pride in being part of Qatar’s first Australian tertiary qualifications.
Foundation Students entered the Swinburne Foundation Program beginning their journey toward globally recognized undergraduate degrees.
Undergraduate Students joined programs in Engineering, Computing and Business, preparing to engage with industries that are shaping Qatar’s future economy.
Postgraduate Students launched their studies in the Master of Computing – Cyber Security, reflecting growing demand for advanced expertise in a critical global field.
The welcome events featured heartfelt addresses from BUC and Swinburne leadership:
Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, Vice-Chairman of BUC, highlighted the trust placed in BUC by parents and students:
“This moment is built on vision and determination. Today, with Swinburne as our partner, we reaffirm our commitment to empower young people with the skills, confidence, and mindset to succeed in a rapidly changing world.”
Professor Pascale Quester, Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology, shared her pride in seeing the vision take root in Doha:
“To our students: you are pioneers. You are part of something historic — the first Australian degrees in Qatar. We are here to ensure you gain not just knowledge, but real skills and experiences that will set you apart.”
Dr. Lotfi Belkhir, Dean of Academics at BUC, emphasized the academic promise of the cohorts:
“This is where your journey as innovators and leaders begins. We are committed to providing you with rigorous, industry-connected programs that will prepare you for the opportunities of tomorrow.”
Eng. Abdur Rahman, Co-Founder & CEO of BUC, closed the events with a note of pride:
“What started as a vision on January 16 has today come alive in this house full of students and families. You are the founding cohorts of BUC x Swinburne, and your energy and ambition give us confidence that together we are shaping a new chapter for higher education in Qatar.”
The events were filled with student introductions, laughter, proud parents capturing memories, and a shared recognition that history was being made. The declaration from the students — “We are the founding cohort of BUC x Swinburne” — symbolized the spirit of partnership and achievement that defined the day.
With this milestone, Barzan University College stands as a beacon of innovation and opportunity, combining academic excellence, industry integration, and global pathways — preparing its founding students to become future leaders in Qatar and beyond.
